The rubber seal has certain pressure resistance and wear resistance. Some special synthetic rubber seals also have oil resistance, chemical corrosion resistance, aging resistance and other functions.
A qualified rubber seal needs to meet the following four criteria to be considered a qualified seal.
1. High elongation. The rubber material can be stretched 500% without deformation.
2. Low elongation modulus and shear modulus.
3. Non-linear characteristics of force and elongation deformation. Unlike the small strain deformation of metal materials, rubber materials cannot be characterized by the linear relationship between force and displacement or stress and strain, such as Hooke’s law.
4. Viscoelasticity. Rubber materials also have viscoelasticity, that is, the characteristics of the material change with temperature and time, which is related to speed.
Rubber seals are generally used in household appliances, construction and other fields. These fields have certain requirements for the performance of rubber seals. This is why we need to have a certain understanding of its test performance, especially the quality inspection of automobile rubber seals is extremely important. Many materials of automobile seals are made of rubber. Therefore, its performance needs to be verified by testing.
